Ocean Organic Farm and Distillery
4051 Omaopio Road, Kula, HI
Ocean Organic Farm and Distillery is a scenic destination set on 80 acres along the slopes of Haleakalā. This attraction is off the beaten path and offers sweeping views that stretch across the island. Visitors can explore the grounds, enjoy guided tastings and pairings highlighting the distillery’s organic spirits, and learn about its sustainable processes. Enjoy a unique blend of agriculture, craftsmanship, and island culture in a laid-back atmosphere. It is far enough from the busy resort areas, allowing guests to relax and linger over a Local Girl cocktail and Ocean Poke Nachos.
The on-site Farm Café is a standout feature, with open-air dining with locally inspired dishes, fresh ingredients, handcrafted cocktails, and regular live music. This is a farm-to-table experience you won’t soon forget. When you are finished with your tasting or a meal, don’t forget to stop by the Farm Store.
Ocean Organic Farm and Distillery is approximately 15 miles from Māʻalaea (about a 20–25-minute drive), making it an easy and rewarding excursion into Maui’s quieter Upcountry region. Make reservations online for your day at the farm.

O’o Farm: Tours & Experiences
651 Waipoli Road, Kula, HI
Oʻo Farm offers one of Maui’s most memorable Upcountry experiences. Guests can choose from two tour options: the Seed-to-Cup Coffee, Brunch, and Farm Tour or the Farm-to-Table Lunch and Farm Tour. Set on the scenic slopes of Haleakalā, this working farm invites visitors to explore lush fields of organic vegetables, coffee trees, fruit orchards, and vibrant edible flowers while enjoying panoramic views stretching across both sides of the island. Guided tours typically last 2–3 hours and include a walk through the farm, where guests learn about sustainable and regenerative farming practices, and many experiences allow you to harvest ingredients for your meal.
What truly sets Oʻo Farm apart is its immersive experience, where guests enjoy a freshly prepared gourmet brunch or multi-course lunch that is made from ingredients picked just moments before. The combination of hands-on exploration, stunning scenery, and exceptional food makes Oʻo Farm a true hidden gem—especially for travelers seeking a more authentic side of Maui.
This farm is approximately 15 miles from Māʻalaea (about a 25–minute drive), making it easy to explore the island’s rural side.

Sugar Beach Bake Shop
61 S Kihei Rd, Kihei, HI
The Sugar Beach Bake Shop has been serving aloha for over 12 years. Tucked into an unassuming corner of Kihei, locals and visitors crave the island-inspired flavors at this bakery. Using fresh, local ingredients, muffins, breads, pastries, and a variety of other baked goods are made from scratch daily. One of the most popular menu items is Malasadas. These pillowy pastry balls are deep-fried, filled with a rich cream, and tossed in sugar. They are a mouth-watering experience you won’t forget! They also served a variety of drinks, including iced coffee and house-made lemonade.
Be sure to arrive early for the best selection or order online. Sugar Beach Bake Shop is approximately 7 miles from Maalaea (about a 15-minute drive).
Mama’s Fish House
799 Poho Pl, Paia, HI
Be transported to Polynesia at Mama’s Fish House on Maui’s North Shore. This dining experience starts with local fishermen who provide freshly caught fish to the restaurant every day. The daily menu will even tell you which vessel or fisherman provided the fish for select entrees.
Family-owned and operated since 1973, this restaurant is an iconic Maui spot. While it is a well-known establishment on the island, we think that their lunch menu is a hidden gem. It is much easier to get a table at lunchtime, and you can order from the same menu as dinner guests. The menu changes daily, but you can expect entrees like Mama’s Bouillabaisse or Whole Crispy Fish with Mango Black Bean Sauce.
Mama’s Fish House is located 15 miles from Maalaea (about a 28-minute drive).
Napili Bay
5315 Lower Honoapiilani Rd F248, Lahaina, HI
Napili Bay, located on Maui’s northwest coast near Lahaina, is a crescent-shaped beach known for its white sand, turquoise water, and laid-back feel. Ideal for families and casual beachgoers, the bay’s reef-protected waters make it a great spot for swimming, beginner snorkeling, and spotting sea turtles. Visitors can access the beach via nearby street parking, though spaces are limited and tend to fill early. While amenities are minimal, a few casual restaurants and shops are within walking distance.
Napili Bay sits about 24.5 miles (roughly a 40–45-minute drive) from Māʻalaea, making it an easy and rewarding excursion for those seeking a quieter alternative to Maui’s busier beaches.
